Reverie

Reverie

Anika Khanna

Remember me in your reverie. I’ll be your true love. We’ll be the prince and the princess, ride in a white horse-drawn carriage into the orange and pink sky—a kind of sunset I’ve never seen—our happily ever after. After it’ll shatter. We’ll never arrive.

No, let’s not try again. Don’t talk me out of it, again. I know our love can last, but you don’t know our relationship can’t. I don’t want a ride that never ends, don’t want the journey if the journey is only semisweet. That childish dream is a dream is a delusion is a distraction. The winds will blow; winter will come soon and the sky will stay gray year after year after year…I’ll stay. Not here, not in reality. But in your reverie (I’ll be yours)
