a different kind of star

a different kind of star

Katie Shang

my father taped some glow in the dark stars

on my ceiling before he left

i don’t know the science behind them but;

sixteen years and they still shine in my sleep

when i close my eyes i see painted purple skies,

kissed with orange rays and slowly melting

i feel gentle hands and a wind that tickles my hair,

some type of summer i’ve never felt before

somedays i sleep and feel like i am falling,

and my glow in the dark stars are there to catch me
