Halcyon

Halcyon

Alina Feng | Art by Lucky Wu

pure white wings of celestial cranes

lend me your wings to soar above the clouds unfettered by the burdens of the world below yet I don’t want to fly far from home

an endless sky, clouds stretched across its blue alas, I must bid the my home adieu

but I’ll be there in memory

in the hearts of my beloved family

“live fast, die young,” time waits for no one the river keeps on running

I loosen the weight of all I must be

and let a wild whimsical wind wander with me

no crowns to chase, no race to win

nothing counting any losses or sins

I watch the clouds drift in the sky

and the moments pass like a lullaby

if I fall from up high, through the evening’s hue I’ll fall without fear, without distress or dismay for life is lighter than we pretend

and cannot be measured, a sky without end

perhaps peace is finally this:

to leave without regret or an unfulfilled wish to love the ground I was raised upon to let the sky open, gently calling me on.
