My original rendition of this piece was in water color, but I later decided to digitally reproduce the piece. The overarching theme of Spare Change is feeling trapped in the confines of society. The girl in the jar is just another penny thrown into a pile of coins, a spare part in a fluctuating and fast-paced machinery of community that never stops to think about one another. I aimed to create a powerful tone of darkness and solitude because there are times when it feels like you are standing alone in the world with nothing but judgement against you.
