unrequited love

Unrequited Love

Writing by Dorothy Ko

Floating on the surface, a curated warmth

I bathe in golden sunlight

Daylight begins to set,

Yet still in sight, it touches the horizon

The skies and clouds swirl orange

The romantic horizon, the affectionate waves

We would be perfect for each other

I didn’t know what was beneath the water

The sun smothered, the sky gray

The waves steal my breath

Consumed in the waves

Engulfed by sudden darkness

With all I have I push to the surface only to see the chill of the horizon

The ocean no longer at peace

Meant to break me to a thousand pieces

A hole in my stomach, a hole in my heart

You were perfect for me
